Psalm 42:1-1 (King James Version) "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God". David was thirsty from being alone, in hiding. His son Absolom wanted to kill him. King David fled for his life for a season. He missed being able to worship with others, on certain holy days. He was dry physically, but more that. He was dry "spiritually". He has been out of fellowship with God because he allowed sin into his life, and would not Repent(which is key)but instead continue on, knowing what he should do, but would not do. Which is "Repent".
That brings him to the place where he is at this moment in scripture. Thirsty and dry. Empty and void of God's presence, Anointing, and power. God wants to fill our dry vessels. Sometimes we come to a place where we get dry, feeling like we're just going through the motions. You read the word and feel like you're just not getting anything out of it. Lack of interest begins, and the things of the world seem more appealing to the Flesh. And because of lacking in time spent with God, you're catering to the sinful nature, and fleshly things more and more. Now you begin to feel distant and far off. But in reality, he is close to the mention of his name! God wants to have fellowship with you. And he doesn't just want you to have your cups a quarter or halfway filled. He wants you to be running over, flowing in everything he wants you to experience. John 3:30 says"I must decrease, but he must increase". More of God, less of me. More of Jesus, less of the world. The more I desire of him, the less, I want of the world.
